Overview

The OG-FiDO-4 family delivers high-density, four-channel SDI and fiber conversion for broadcast, production, sports, live events, house of worship, campus installations, and Pro AV infrastructure. Designed for applications where growing camera counts and long SDI runs demand greater fiber density, OG-FiDO-4 supports up to 40 independent SDI/fiber channels in a single openGear frame. 

Built around a common four-channel architecture, the OG-FiDO-4 family offers nine configurations for 12G-SDI single-mode, 3G-SDI single-mode, and 3G-SDI multi-mode LC fiber. Choose from four-channel transmit, four-channel receive, or two-channel transmit/two-channel receive models to match the signal direction and fiber requirements of each installation.

All four SDI BNC connections are independent and fully isolated, allowing different supported SDI data rates to be carried simultaneously. Automatic data rate detection and reclocking help maintain signal integrity, while SDI ancillary data, including HDR metadata, passes transparently through the signal path. Remote monitoring via openGear DashBoard software provides centralized operational visibility, complemented by onboard Input Present and SMPTE Lock LEDs for fast local status verification.

OG-FiDO-4 Family Connections

The OG-FiDO-4 architecture combines four independent SDI BNC connections with four optical fiber channels in a compact two-slot openGear design to create nine fiber configurations. This common hardware architecture provides a consistent approach to building high-density fiber transport while allowing each card configuration to be matched to the requirements of the signal path.

Workflows

OG-FiDO-4X-12G — Bidirectional 12G-SDI and Fiber Transport

Production workflows often require signals to move in both directions over the same fiber infrastructure. OG-FiDO-4X-12G combines two transmit and two receive channels on a single openGear card, providing four independent signal paths for simultaneous, bidirectional conversion.

In this workflow, two 12G-SDI camera signals are converted to fiber for transport into production, while two 12G-SDI production outputs are simultaneously converted to fiber for delivery to remote 4K projectors. At each endpoint, AJA FiDO Mini-Converters provide the corresponding SDI/fiber conversion. The 2 Tx / 2 Rx configuration consolidates both directions into a single two-slot openGear card, simplifying bidirectional 12G-SDI fiber transport while increasing channel density within production environments.

OG-FiDO-4R-12G — Bringing Camera Feeds Back to Production

Large live productions can place cameras far beyond the practical reach of copper SDI cabling. In this workflow, four 12G-SDI camera signals from a live event stage are transported over single-mode fiber for distances up to 10 km (32,808 ft). Installed in the OB truck, the OG-FiDO-4R-12G receives all four optical signals and converts them to independent 12G-SDI outputs for the production switcher. Four receive channels on a single card provide a high-density way to bring remote camera feeds back to production while preserving uncompressed 12G-SDI signal quality.

HDR Pass-Through Support

HDR or High Dynamic Range, provides the ability to display a wider and richer range of colors, much brighter whites, and much deeper, darker blacks than SDR or Standard Dynamic Range signals allow. This gives your imagery a more ‘dynamic’ look and allows for natural true to life colors to be communicated to your audience.

openGear Compatibility

The openGear standard ensures that AJA cards will be compatible with other openGear products from certified openGear partners. With a growing list of products, openGear is the standard for professional rackframe solutions.

Flexible I/O

The modular rear panel allows custom I/O connections per card (included with individual cards).

Failsafe

The optional redundant power supply provides a secondary power source in the event of a primary power failure.

Ethernet Access

A standard Ethernet connection allows the frame to be accessed via the Ross DashBoard software application for overall frame communication. Optional per-card Ethernet access can be installed in the frame for advanced communication with compatible openGear cards.
