KiStor Storage Modules are compatible with Ki Pro and Ki Pro Rack and provide the basis for powerful file-based recording and playback that replaces traditional VTRs in many production and live applications as well as providing a streamlined workflow for post-production. The factory-certified KiStor drive is encased in a tough outer shell designed to ensure the drive is inserted correctly into a Ki Pro or Ki Pro Rack for recording and playback. The tough outer casing protects the drive from the rigors of production use, keeping your valuable media safe.
Unlike typical hard drives, which are designed for a small number of repeated connections, KiStor modules use a reinforced connection that's engineered for a high number of insertions and removals to withstand the rigors of daily use in a production environment.
KiStor drives also have a built-in USB 3.0 connection, allowing them to be plugged directly into your system for quick downloads while in the field.

KiStor Media uses “Enterprise Level” flash memory. This is the highest quality rating available for digital media.
Enterprise rated memory can have up to 10 times the endurance of consumer media, critical for professional use. Additionally enterprise memory provides data retention during power loss, essential for the preservation of your precious content.
Consumer media often varies in quality from batch to batch under the same name and label. Enterprise Level media like AJA KiStor media is guaranteed to run to the same high quality standards every time, from unit to unit.
Each KiStor unit is individually burned-in and tested at AJA’s plant before you receive it.
As with every AJA product, each and every KiStor unit shipped has been burned-in and tested at our factory in Grass Valley. This QC and testing is a key component for reliability and predictability in high pressure professional settings.
KiStor Media’s connector is a ruggedized connector rated for thousands of Insertions.
KiStor’s connector is designed for multiple insertions into Ki Pros and KiStor docks. This includes robust design, strong metal, and substantial gold plating. Our connector is rated for 10,000 insertions. By comparison, connectors on bare drives are not designed for multiple insertions, substantially putting your precious media content at risk.
KiStor Media is protected in a rugged enclosure, designed to with stand tough environments and the occasional accidental drop.
KiStors are secured in a custom case, designed to protect the recording media. Conversely, bare drives, such as those used by our competitors, are intended for internal installation only and can suffer damage when used as portable media.
Use KiStor media with compatible AJA Ki Pro file-based VTRs to record directly to ProRes or DNxHD* files. Then connect KiStor directly to your editing system and copy the files using the built-in USB 3.0 connection for lightning-fast transfers. Once copied, you're ready to work - no import or transcoding needed.

KiStor modules can be formatted directly on the Ki Pro device. This allows true standalone functionality on location, without the need to connect to a host computer simply to format media.
