Component Engineer – Grass Valley

Component Engineer supports AJA’s commercial video hardware products. This role works closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to ensure components used in designs are available, cost-effective, and technically sound.

This is the primary Component Engineering resource, and leads component identification, AVL management, and lifecycle support. A key part of the role is evaluating and approving alternate components prior to supply constraints impacting production, using solid engineering judgment and practical tradeoff analysis.

Requirements:

  • Assist design engineers in selecting electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components for new designs.
  • Review BOMs, new components, and lifecycle status for availability, cost, supply chain risk, and regulatory compliance (e.g., RoHS, REACH).
  • Perform datasheet and parametric comparisons to ensure form, fit, and function compatibility of alternate components.
  • Add and qualify alternate manufacturers and suppliers where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain AVLs and maintain accurate component data in the PLM system.
  • Work with Purchasing and Engineering to address obsolescence and avoid production interruptions.
  • Create ECOs, deviations, and perform other PLM actions.
  • Assist in investigating component-related failures or quality issues and work with suppliers to resolve problems.
  • Assist with export commodity control at the component level.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in component selection, data quality, and supply chain reliability.
  • Create, distribute, implement, and maintain new and existing procedures and documentation.
  • Support Engineering, Manufacturing/Operations, and Purchasing/Supply Chain teams.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive technical knowledge of components used in electronic products.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex datasheets and compare component specifications.
  • Experience with BOMs, AVLs.
  • Experience with PLM and/or ERP systems including component and product lifecycles.
  • Practical understanding of electronics supply chains and sourcing challenges.
  • Proficient in Excel with the ability to design detailed reports and extract data.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to undertake a variety of assignments.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in a small or mid-sized company environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with engineers, managers, other employees, and outside vendors.
  • Willingness to adhere to company policies and support management decisions and goals in a positive and professional manner.

Education and Experience:

  • BS degree with 3–7 years of experience in Component Engineering, Electronics design, or a similar role or related field (or equivalent education and experience).

This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits. The base salary for this position is $92,444 – $127,111. This range reflects base salary only and does not include additional compensation or benefits. Individual base pay is determined by various factors such as relevant experience, education, training and skills, and the scope and responsibilities of the position.
