Mechanical Design Engineer II – Grass Valley

Mechanical Design Engineer II is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of mechanical components and enclosures for professional and commercial video systems. This role focuses on designing robust, manufacturable product enclosures, sub-assemblies, and components-supporting products from concept through production and lifecycle sustainment.

Requirements:

  • Design and develop mechanical enclosures and assemblies for embedded systems.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and production drawings, primarily for sheet metal and die-cast aluminum enclosures.
  • Apply geometric design, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA principles to ensure manufacturability and product reliability.
  • Support prototype builds and design validation (thermal, vibration, mechanical fit).
  • Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure proper mechanical integration.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback related to performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Manage mechanical BOMs, engineering change orders (ECOs), and documentation within AJA’s PLM system.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during production, assembly, and field use.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts for existing products.
  • Administer mechanical library.

  • Experience designing for plastic injection molding.
  • Experience with FEA or other mechanical analysis tools such as thermal simulation.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (ASME, ISO, IEC).
  • Experience supporting products through full development lifecycle and into production.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 4-6 years of mechanical design experience in electronic or electromechanical products.
  • Strong experience designing sheet metal and die-cast product enclosures.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
  • Solid understanding of materials, finishes, fasteners, and thermal considerations for electronics.
  • Familiar with thermal management solutions (heat sinks, airflow, fans).
  • Experience producing detailed drawings, GD&T, and BOMs.
  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex designs and contribute effectively within a team.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits. The base salary for this position is $99,102 - $136,266. This range reflects base salary only and does not include additional compensation or benefits. Individual base pay is determined by various factors such as relevant experience, education, training and skills, and the scope and responsibilities of the position.
