In January, the company wrapped up one of its largest events yet – “Passion 2013.” The four-day worship engagement included inspirational presentations and live concert performances that drew 60,000 college students and young adults to the Georgia Dome. Shot in the round using 23 different cameras, the event was streamed live online and fed to screens and video boards inside the Georgia Dome; event highlights are also currently being edited for a DVD release.

Throughout the four days, TNDV employed two mobile production trucks to accommodate 30 terabytes (TB) of recorded content.

Mobilizing their flagship expanding side HD truck Aspiration, as well as their 40’ Inspiration, TNDV formed a massive mobile production infrastructure for “Passion.” Between the two mobile studios, TNDV’s team rolled into the Georgia Dome with 26 AJA Ki Pro digital video recorders; 30 AJA FiDO SDI/Optical Fiber Mini-Converters; a wide array of Hitachi, Sony and Panasonic cameras; Harris Broadcast routers and multiviewers; Ross production switchers; Plura test monitors and a plethora of other graphics, audio and editing equipment.

A longtime AJA customer, TNDV knew from the project’s inception that they could rely on an arsenal of Ki Pros to handle all of the recording needs for the event and the FiDO converters to reliably facilitate long cable run requirements, as they can support distances of up to 10 kilometers.

“The Ki Pro recorders are a staple for almost all of our events and a critical component to our mobile production workflow. We knew we’d be able to depend on them for quick turnaround for playout, as well as connectivity to whichever editing and production systems that we needed to work on,” shared Nic Dugger, owner and president, TNDV.

“The devices also provide a very fast and simple transfer to storage drives, which is essential for on-the-fly editing, as well as post work for DVD creation later on.”

Split between the two trucks, the Ki Pros were connected to a series of 8TB RAID servers capturing live feeds from 23 camera configurations, as well as multiple line cuts. Dugger added, “The Ki Pros are ideal for an event like this, where we need to record everything that we shoot, because they’re all timecode-logged. They also accommodate unique router outputs for dedicated camera feeds and offer a variety of codecs.”

He concluded, “AJA single-handedly allowed us to make an affordable transition to HD years ago, and year after year, their software and hardware updates continue to impress both our staff and clients. The Ki Pro alone has allowed us to develop a unique workflow that we truly believe has impacted many other producers and content providers across the country.”
