Manufacturing Engineer – Grass Valley

The manufacturing engineer develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. This position supports manufacturing and test areas, and to a lesser extent the purchasing department. This position interfaces directly with design engineering on new products, reviewing and making recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new and existing product lines to improve quality, reduce costs, or both. Maintains records for compliance certifications.

Required Skills and Background:

  • Experience managing the transition of new products into manufacturing, and monitoring the quality of existing products.
  • Ability to generate and implement process documentation that is consistent with and maintains all compliance certifications.
  • Experience compiling records for compliance audits and being the company liaison for on site or virtual inspections.
  • Experience specifying and procuring new equipment as required to improve manufacturing quality and efficiency.
  • Experience supporting design and engineering activities by providing guidance during new product design related to manufacturability and testability.
  • Experience leading process development and process improvement activities.
  • Experience training and directing operators on existing and new products.
  • Experience generating rework instructions for discrepant material.
  • Experience aiding in monitoring contract manufacturing costs, and makes recommendations to improve efficiency and lower production costs on new and existing products.
  • Ability to make periodic inspections of contract manufacturer facilities and works with purchasing to communicate recommended improvements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.

  • Spends time and energy to learn new approaches, tools, and methodologies to stay abreast and move ahead in position/ field.
  • When faced with individual or multi-faceted problems, consistently identifies and evaluates alternatives, risks, and consequences prior to making decisions.
  • Basic knowledge of high volume as well as low volume electronics and mechanical assembly techniques.
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, Access or FileMakerPro.
  • Understands and experienced with development and maintaining compliance processes and documentation.
