Overview

This document describes the steps required to upgrade the software in the AJA FS1.

Acquire FS1 Software

Current and past releases of FS1 software are available on the World Wide Web from AJA's website. Point your browser to http://www.aja.com/html/FS1_update_page.html and download the version of FS1 software to which you wish to upgrade to your local machine.

Unpack the Software

The software is enclosed in a ZIP file, which you can open with a number of standard and third party applications. The software image that will be uploaded to the FS1 is a file with a name like fs1_ver_2.0.3.24.bin or similar. Note that depending on your Mac or Windows configuration you may not see the ".bin" extension in a file browser.

Upload the Software to the FS1

To upgrade the FS1, follow the instructions in the "Installing The Latest Software" section of the FS1 manual, available at http://www.aja.com/pdf/support/manuals_conv/AJA_manual_fs1.pdf

The online manual will always have the most up-to-date information about upgrading your FS1.

Here is a brief summary of the steps required to upgrade your FS1:

First point your browser at the FS1's upgrade page by clicking on the "Update Firmware" link at the bottom of the navigation box on the left-hand side of any FS1 web page.

Second, click the "Browse..." button to select the file containing the FS1 software with which you would like to upgrade your FS1. Example: fs1_ver_2.0.3.24.bin contained in the zipfile downloaded from AJA.

Third, when you have selected a valid FS1 image, click the "Upload" button in the web GUI. The file you have selected will be uploaded to the FS1 and tested for validity. Files that are incomplete, corrupted, or that do not contain FS1 software will be rejected.

Fourth, after the image has been uploaded and validated, the version of the uploaded firmware will be displayed and you will be prompted to click "Commit Uploaded Firmware" if you wish to proceed. If so, click the Commit Uploaded Firmware button. If not, click cancel.

Finally, wait for the procedure to complete. This will take a few minutes. When it is done, you will be prompted to click a button to restart your FS1 at which time the FS1 will come up running the new software and if necessary will perform the second and final upgrade phase, updating four items inside the FS1. Progress will be displayed on the front panel of the FS1 only. This second upgrade phase is performed only once per software update and may take up to 8 minutes.

Once this step is complete, your FS1 will be running the software you just uploaded until the next time you upgrade it. The configuration of the FS1 prior to the upgrade will be preserved.
